The recto of this 1795 leaf presents a complete exposition and development (39 and 36 bars, respectively) for the first movement of the Piano Sonata Op. 2 No. 1. The text is closer to the published version than the previous 1793 sketch. On the verso, Beethoven noted some short and unused ideas; one of these, in F minor, may have been sketched for one of the other movements of the same Sonata. Facsimile and transcription in Schwarz, "Moscow Sketch" 543-5 and 548-9.
